Gods Zion Church of God in Christ Inc. is a product of divine intercession. It came into being on Thursday 19th April, 1990, through divine directives of Jehovah God, in a prayer meeting to Supt. Essien G. Essien. On Sunday 22nd April, 1990 the first Worship Service was held in Gods Zion Church at No. 43 Umoren Street, Uyo where Jehovah is the Leader for ever. Gods Zion Church have at present eighteen branches namely Uyo Headquarters, Ekpene Ukim, Etinan, Afaha Ikot Ebak, Ikot Osom, Ukana Offot in Akwa Ibom State, Calabar, Ikang, Efioanwan, Idundu, Ikot Asuquo, Igboafia, Okom Ita, Akwa Ibami in Cross River State, Port Harcourt and Elele in Rivers State and Aba town in Abia State. We are expanding slowly but surely within the thirty-six Federating States of Nigeria.

God has done marvellous work in Gods Zion COGIC but the benefits of our faiths cost us something. The road to success has not been easy. We have chosen to stick to the old rugged cross which we hope someday to exchange it for a crown. Woe to them that are at ease in Zion unquote Amos 6 verse 1.

Supt. Essien G. Essien is the Founder and Supt. of Gods Zion COGIC Inc. He was born in the year 1943 in Ekpene Ukim, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria. He is married to Deaconess Angela Essien and their marriage is blessed with ten children.

Gods Zion COGIC Inc. was affiliated to Church of God in Christ on 26th May, 2001 at Memphis, Tennessee in the US through Bishop Mishael Akpan of the Southern Nigeria Ecclesiastical Jurisidiction.
